Bank Advanced Practitioner (Urgent & Primary Care) – Remote Consultation

Remote Consultation Bank Advanced Practitioners in Urgent and Primary Care. The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) responds to over 600,000 emergency calls a year and provides an emergency ambulance service to a population of over 5 million people across mainland and island communities. SAS is committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care in line with the NHS Quality Strategy and SAS objectives.

This is an opportunity to support our growing team of Advanced Paramedic Practitioners and Advanced Nurse Practitioners within SAS and continue to build upon the success of the Advanced Practice programme. Since its development at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Remote Consultation by Advanced Practitioners within SAS has helped ensure patients receive the right care at the right time, in the right place, including signposting, referrals to community pathways, or remote assessments via phone or video link.

Some elements of the broader Advanced Practitioner role are included in this bank post to support the Remote Consultation aspect of the rotational model for Advanced Practitioners within SAS.


Responsibilities

* Provide virtual patient consultation and professional support for other clinicians on behalf of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
* Demonstrate high-level, independent decision-making including assessment, diagnosis, management, and treatment including prescribing for patients with complex multidimensional needs.
* Operate with a broad breadth of knowledge and critical thinking, supported by a recognized Advanced Practice framework beyond standard HCPC/NMC registration requirements.


Qualifications

* HCPC registered Paramedic or NMC registered Nurse.
* Minimum of SCQF level 11 Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Practice (including V300 prescribing).
* Evidence of completion of an appropriate Advanced Practice Competency Framework.
* Significant clinical practice and ongoing employment within primary/urgent/emergency care, including 1 year at an Advanced Practice level.


Employment details

* Hours offered on an ad-hoc basis; paid at the hourly rate for the relevant point on Band 7.
* This bank post is specifically for the Remote Consultation aspect of the Advanced Practitioner in Urgent and Primary Care role.
* Assessment day details: dates to be provided; assessment and interviews will be held by MS Teams on 23 and 24 September 2025.
* Start dates and induction plan to be negotiated: IT systems training and remote consultation training on 23/24 October 2025 and 4/5 November 2025.
