About The Role
Morrison Water Services is recruiting for Civil Apprentices, to work on our Caledonia Water Alliance contract.
Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA) is a joint venture alliance between Aecom and Morrison Water Services (MWS), supporting the delivery of Scottish Water’s SR21 Capital Investment Programme.
CWA are responsible for the delivery of a pan Scotland £700M water and wastewater infrastructure programme over a 6-year alliance framework.

With the support of your work-based mentor, your responsibilities will increase as your skills and technical knowledge develop. You will learn alongside our experienced squads on how to be responsible for the daily control, management, and coordination of construction activities on site to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget and to the required safety, environmental and quality standards.

Please note there will be an Assessment Centre which will take place on 18th June 2024. You must be able to attend to be considered for the programme.
Specific activities relating to Civil Apprenticeship
1. Installing wastewater infrastructure and ancillary structures.
2. Conform with productive working practices and completing the work in accordance with the programme of work
3. Interpret and follow verbal and written work instructions from supervisors and site managers
4. Access, interpret and use drawings and specifications
5. Use and maintain power tools and equipment (including compactor plates, boning rods, portable power tools, levels, straight edges, lines, pins and laser equipment)
6. Select and use basic setting out equipment including tape measures, levels, straight edges, lines and pins, boning rods and laser equipment under guidance of the supervisor.
7. Install, maintain and remove temporary protection and safety arrangements for the work area relating to barriers and temporary structures, including protection, safety notices and safety lighting.
8. Install and test basic drainage and ducting
9. Measure, mark, cut and install geo-membranes to stabilise soil for re-instatement and excavations
10. Transport and place, then compact and finish concrete to slabs/bases, footing oversights, paths, form slab edgings including positioning reinforcement and kerbs
11. Install ironworks relating to access covers and frames, and gully grates and frames including preparatory brickwork
12. Form and reinstate excavations and surfaces to sub-grades, sub-bases and road bases
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
13. You will ideally have a basic level of numeracy and literacy and will undertake Functional Level 1 as part of the apprenticeship programme, which is equivalent to GCSE qualifications.
14. You will need to demonstrate an interest and enthusiasm to work outdoors
15. You must possess a high degree of manual dexterity demonstrated using hand tools.
16. You must be able to travel to your home depot or work site every day, potentially at unsocial hours, and must possess a full manual driving license by the end of the apprenticeship programme
Apprenticeship Standard
Apprentices will undergo training at a variety of CWA Project Sites and the Stepps Office. Here you will acquire the basic knowledge, skills and competence to enable them to work productively within the water network. The remainder of your time will be spent under supervision on site at Caledonia Water Alliance contract.
Apprenticeship Development Scheme in Depth
As an Apprentice within Morrison Water Services, you will undertake both a technical programme as well as our internal EU Skills endorsed Apprenticeship Development Scheme (ADS) programme.
The ADS programme is a blend of online and face to face sessions, involving the development of soft skills and being supported by mental health/pastoral care. Some elements of the scheme are residential, which will take place around England. Therefore, applicants must be prepared to travel and stay away from home.
Whilst on your apprentice programme, your travel to and from the providers’ locations, hotel accommodation, and all meals will be provided.
