Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Supervisor on a 12 Month Contract, based in the Orkney Islands- Accommodation, Transfers and Flights provided.
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Primary Supervisor to oversee GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) installation works on a project in the Orkney Islands. The successful candidate will take a lead role in supervising site activities, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with project specifications within a high-voltage environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and supervise primary installation activities within the substation environment
* Oversee GIS installation works, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and standards
* Coordinate site teams, subcontractors, and resources to ensure smooth project delivery
* Ensure strict adherence to health & safety procedures, including RAMS and permit-to-work systems
* Conduct site briefings, toolbox talks, and safety audits
* Monitor progress, quality, and productivity, reporting to the Site Manager
* Identify and resolve on-site issues to minimise delays
* Maintain accurate site records and documentation
Requirements
Essential Requirements
* Valid CSCS Card
* SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme)
* Proven experience with GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) installation in the power/substation sector
* Strong understanding of primary plant installation in high-voltage environments
* Experience working on live or controlled substations
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Desirable Requirements
* SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) – preferred but not essential
* Previous experience in a supervisory role on transmission or substation projects
* Knowledge of UK power industry standards and best practices
