Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students in a specialist school in Portsmouth. This is a term-time only role with flexible working hours, ideal for those needing a work-life balance without compromising on job satisfaction.
About the Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, your role will involve:
* Supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs, often on a 1:1 basis or in small groups.
* Helping manage challenging behaviours using trauma-informed approaches and de-escalation strategies.
* Assisting with classroom learning, emotional regulation, and routine-based activities.
* Building trusted relationships to support pupils' confidence, wellbeing, and progress.
* Working closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to deliver tailored interventions.
What is an SEMH School?
SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) schools provide specialist education for young people who may face difficulties such as anxiety, behavioural challenges, attachment disorders, or trauma-related needs. These settings focus on holistic development, resilience building, and supporting students both academically and emotionally in a safe, structured environment.
Requirements:
* A calm, empathetic, and proactive approach
* Experience supporting young people with additional or complex needs (desirable but not essential)
* Confidence in managing behaviour positively and respectfully
* Strong teamwork and communication skills
* Enhanced Child workforce DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
