Responsibilities
* Develop and deploy machine learning and generative AI solutions that directly impact how we serve customers and run our business.
* Design and implement robust models, experiment with new approaches, and translate business problems into data science solutions.
* Build prototypes, evaluate model performance both statistically and in terms of business impact, and scale models into production.
* Collaborate closely with Machine Learning Engineers and Software Engineers to ensure solutions are efficient, maintainable, and aligned with Tesco’s technology standards.
* Communicate complex ideas clearly to non‑technical stakeholders and contribute to internal knowledge sharing.
* Represent Tesco in the external data science community and evaluate and integrate emerging GenAI and LLM techniques into our data products.
Qualifications
* Strong foundation in machine learning, statistics, and programming.
* Experience designing and implementing models using Python and working with large‑scale data in distributed computing environments.
* Hands‑on experience with generative AI, LLMs, and deep learning frameworks is valued.
* Excellent communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
* Scientific mindset, critical thinking, and proactive learning of new methods.
* Higher degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics) preferred; equivalent commercial experience also valued.
* Strong coding practices, including version control and testing.
