Clinical Responsibilities
1. Responsible for the post-operative care of patients following surgery and responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation programmes of care including admission and discharge planning for each patient in the Recovery area without direct supervision.
2. Provision of individualised care needs in conjunction with the anaesthetic and surgical teams.
3. Recognise and appropriately respond to urgent and emergency situations.
4. Provide skilled patient care, monitor, and maintain safety of patients in the Recovery area.
5. Ensure work environment is safe, well-equipped, and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness especially before and after receiving patient into Recovery area.
6. To update the patient care records ensuring own responsibility and accountability in maintaining accurate nursing documentation using Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system and in any other form.
7. Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary clinical practice, explore new ideas and introduce positive evidence-based change in line with the local and national guidelines such as Association of Perioperative Practice (AfPP), Royal College of Nursing (RCN), Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI), National Institute of Care Essence (NICE), British Association of Recovery Nurses Association (BARNA) etc.
8. Demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based practice and clinical excellence and play an active role in the introduction of this evidence to improve patient centred care, clinical practice, and service delivery.
9. Identify, discuss, and report any relevant nursing/patient care needs with the team and to inform and involve patient with their care plans.
10. To carry out all relevant nursing procedures and practices in line with the Trust’s guidelines and policies including adherence to local guidelines, policies, and protocols.
Leadership and Managerial Responsibilities
11. To always act as visible and effective professional role model.
12. Required to function as the nurse in charge as part of the job role ensuring provision of efficient and effective running of the Recovery department.
13. To support the Recovery Lead Practitioner in ensuring that staffing establishments and skill mix are adequate and appropriate for clinical demands.
14. Deputise for the Recovery Lead Practitioner in his/her absence.
15. Be the first point of contact in the absence of Recovery Lead Practitioner.
16. To act as clinical support to Recovery Practitioners and fellow Senior Recovery Practitioners you are leading on.
17. To proactively lead in identifying potential problems and taking appropriate actions to ensure the smooth running of the Recovery unit.
18. Ensure regular attendance at daily safety brief, ward, and departmental meetings including clinical governance meetings.
19. Contribute to the efficient use of clinical items and consumables including pharmaceutical supplies in a cost-effective and responsible manner.
20. To provide support to senior management in connection with service delivery initiatives and decisions.

Education/ Qualifications
Essential criteria
21. Current and relevant registration- NMC Registered Nurse
22. Teaching and Assessing Qualification or Equivalent
23. Evidence of recent professional development
Desirable criteria
24. Post registration course in Recovery/HDU/Critical Care Nursing
25. •Qualification in at least one of the accredited emergency care courses (e.g., ILS/PILS/ALS).
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
26. •Significant experience in surgical nursing at Band 5 to include Recovery nursing
