Salary: Starting Salary is £36,363 (Level one) rising to £39,152 ‘pro rata for part-time’

Location: Clocktower House, Eastcroft Depot, Nottingham, NG2 3AH

Nottingham is on an ambitious journey to become a carbon-neutral city by 2028 — and we’re looking for a talented Senior Energy Project Officer to help drive this mission. This is a technical and delivery-focused role at the heart of the Council’s energy and sustainability function, responsible for shaping, managing and delivering high‑value renewable energy and energy‑efficiency projects across the city.

You will play a key role within the Solar Hub, leading feasibility work, developing business cases, managing installations, and ensuring Nottingham continues to lead the way in low‑carbon innovation. About the Role

You will support the Solar Hub Team Leader by developing and delivering renewable energy and energy‑efficiency projects that reduce carbon, cut energy costs and help meet the city’s Carbon Neutral 2028 (CN28) target. You will lead technical solar feasibility assessments, manage project installations, and oversee performance reporting, data analysis and compliance across a wide range of Council‑owned assets. This is a delivery‑critical role for someone with strong technical skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously while contributing to a high‑performing team.

What You will be doing

As Senior Energy Project Officer, you will:

1. Develop and deliver energy‑efficiency and renewable‑energy projects from inception to completion, ensuring all required standards, funding conditions, legislation and KPIs are met.
2. Lead the production of solar feasibility studies, carrying out detailed surveys of buildings, analysing generation potential and identifying viable rooftop and ground‑mounted opportunities.
3. Design, specify, tender and manage solar PV and energy‑service upgrades, coordinating contractors and overseeing on‑site works to ensure safe, compliant and high‑quality delivery.
4. Manage grid connection and planning applications, liaising with DNOs, planning officers and external bodies to secure necessary consents.
5. Support the expansion of the Solar Hub, identifying consultancy opportunities with external partners and contributing to income generation for the Council.
6. Promote collaborative work across departments to ensure a coordinated, professional and industry‑standard approach to project delivery.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

7. An energy or environmental qualification, or an equivalent level of professional knowledge gained through experience.
8. Experience writing compelling business cases and advising stakeholders on technical and financial aspects of energy projects.
9. Proven ability to manage workloads, deliver to tight deadlines, and oversee contractors or suppliers.
10. Strong understanding of UK energy legislation, compliance requirements, and the drivers that shape a renewable‑energy generation projects.
11. Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex issues to a range of audiences and build effective relationships.

Driving license desirable

- A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.
