Overview of the Role
As a Principal Data Governance Consultant within our new Asset, Data and Information team (ADI), you will help us empower lasting industry transformation. You will be part of our entrepreneurial and growing team which provides industry‑leading, award‑winning consulting services. We are looking for a consultant with strong experience in data and especially data governance, and ideally with experience in at least one of our key growth sectors: Water, Buildings, Rail, Aviation or Defence.
Your Contribution
* Build a data governance service to support clients in improving their data quality and reliability.
* Provide guidance as to approach and be comfortable road‑mapping the overall strategy as well as supporting delivery of data governance practices.
* Provide strong, evidence‑based advice on master data, data quality and organisational systems to support best practice in data governance.
* Be comfortable working with and adapting to clients in different sectors and understand how to adapt your advice to their needs and circumstances.
* Play a vital role in scaling the data strategy capability, connecting with clients and colleagues alike to create opportunities for growth.
Delivering Great Work
* Lead data governance projects for clients, ranging from short‑term strategy and road‑mapping projects to longer‑term delivery of enterprise data governance improvements.
* Act as a trusted advisor to clients and be a key part of building our capability and reputation in data governance.
* Support the Data Strategy team to identify the shape of the opportunity in data governance for our infrastructure clients, and steer and support our resourcing and service development in this area.
* Grow your internal and client network to identify opportunities for data governance projects.
* Support the bidding and scoping process for new projects, and identify the right opportunities for the team.
* Manage your professional development, ensuring you have competencies in the tools, approaches and skills that will support your clients.
* Contribute to the development of the team and organisation, e.g., through recruitment and line management, wider innovation or support projects, attending events, or engaging in peer support.
Candidate Specification
Essential
* Certified data management professional (DMBOK) with substantial direct experience of data governance and strategy, preferably in low data maturity or infrastructure organisations.
* Experience delivering a variety of data governance change projects, with a demonstrable understanding of strategy and approach and how it can be successfully applied in different contexts.
* Strong understanding of how regulation can impact an organisation’s data governance needs, particularly in strongly regulated environments; direct experience adapting data governance approaches to organisational contexts.
* Strong project, programme and/or people management skills and experience.
* Good general communication skills, including the ability to engage with clients, present results, and connect the data project with the organisation’s overall approach and vision.
* Appreciation of and experience with the available enterprise toolsets for data governance, especially those available within Microsoft Azure or Fabric.
Desirable
* Experience in one or more of transportation, energy, water, defence, buildings, environment, or technology sectors.
* Experience in consultancy roles, with skills in some of: working with clients, bid writing, proposal development, building a network, and business development activity.
* Experience with more technical data skills is a bonus, such as PowerBI.
* A creative approach to scoping projects and an ability to recognise opportunities for data projects that deliver value.
* Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development, such as membership or chartership with a professional body.
