The Role

Join our fast-paced and dedicated food testing laboratory, where accuracy, teamwork and commitment to quality are at the heart of everything we do. As a Laboratory Technician, you’ll play a key role in supporting microbiological testing processes that help ensure food safety and quality for our clients. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a structured environment, enjoys hands-on work, and takes pride in maintaining high laboratory standards. We’ll provide full training, ongoing support, and the chance to develop your skills within a growing and respected laboratory operation.

About The Position

Shift: 40 hours per week

Hours: 4 days on / 4 days off, Monday to Friday 08:45 - 21:00, Saturday 10:00 – 21:00, Sunday 09:45 – 21:00

Salary: £25,834

Location: Rotherham

Contract: Full Time, Permanent


The day to day

* Perform microbiological testing on food samples, including weighing, diluting, and preparing samples using aseptic techniques.
* Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic workstation in line with departmental cleaning schedules.
* Prepare and supplement media, conduct volume checks, and operate laboratory equipment such as media preparators and pourer stackers.
* Ensure all samples are handled safely and accurately.
* Dispose of waste and clean utensils promptly to maintain a safe working environment.
* Collaborate with colleagues to meet testing deadlines and departmental targets.


The Essentials

* Educated to A level (or equivalent) in a science-related subject – or with relevant laboratory experience.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining laboratory cleanliness and safety standards.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to work well within a team and respond positively to feedback.
* Reliable and punctual, with a flexible approach to working hours and changing priorities.
* Able to manage workload effectively and meet required deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Demonstrates initiative, problem-solving skills, and a proactive attitude toward learning and improvement.
