Role responsibilities
* Be responsible for Asset Policy for Geotechnical and Drainage Works by working with other the Senior Asset Engineer, Head of Asset Management and engineers to integrate policies and Procedures into an Asset Management and Asset System Framework.
* Provide governance to review renewal and enhancement proposals acceptance criteria for geotechnical engineering works by providing design approval, acceptance of designs and hand back to maintenance, with auditing acceptance processes to optimize engineering activities and identify technical challenges within the proposed works.
* Responsible for Geotechnical related renewals and maintenance by reviewing and advising on the Infrastructure Managers annual renewals plan and budget to ensure safety or the railway and value for money for the Welsh Government.
* Provide governance on geotechnical and drainage works and assets proposal by TfW's delivery partners by carrying out analysis of the Delivery Partner's programme of mobilisation and discovery, through regular liaison to ensure whether the submission fits the criteria for material discovery and if it is value for money.
* Provide advice to the team for the management of geotechnical assets by reviewing the Delivery Partner's Team's Asset Management Strategy and Asset Management Plan, to ascertain compliance to the overall Grant Agreement.
* Provide input to the Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP) for earthworks and drainage to provide the strategic vision of the management of assets.
* Remain informed about developments in best asset management practice and technology and best practice in Geotechnics related activities and apply this knowledge to challenge the Rail Services team to apply this to deliver continuous improvement for Transport for Wales. Maintain own professional development and stay abreast of technical and regulatory changes, as well as developments in best practice.
* Provide continuous improvement to TfW's geotechnical and asset management policies and procedures by staying abreast of innovations and legislative changes to ensure TfW are using methods of best practice.
* Be TfW Geotechnical subject matter expert by providing advice and support to the engineering the wider Infrastructure Owner team in their work to provide Transport for Wales Executive and Stakeholders with full confidence in Transport for Wales 's ability to meet its Infrastructure Owner responsibilities.

Who we're looking for
* Be masters or postgraduate qualified and working towards Chartership in an area such as Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology or similar or have equivalent experience.
* Demonstrable experience and knowledge of the rail or transport industry.
* Previous experience in a design or project assurance role.
* The ability to review ground investigation and designs submissions.
* Ability to demonstrate budgetary control to ensure value for money.
* Ability to manage stakeholders and work within a politically sensitive environment.
* Experience of inspection and remote condition monitoring systems of geotechnical assets to support and assure safe and efficient asset management.
* Knowledge and experience of railway and highways civils/geotechnical engineering projects.

Welsh Language Skills
The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.
