Job Description
We have an exciting new role for Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Rescue. We are recruiting for a Property Maintenance Technician to work at their Headquarters in Northampton. This is a permanent role, working Monday to Friday, 37 hours a week.
PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO POLICE VETTING CRITERIA, YOU MUST HAVE BEEN RESIDING WITHIN THE UK CONTINUOUSLY FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS.
Purpose of the Role: Working within Enabling Services as a Property Maintenance Technician, supporting the Deputy Property Operations Manager and the wider Property Operations team in dealing with minor repairs and defects across police and fire estates.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Provide repair and maintenance services to police and fire premises, including sourcing, pricing, and purchasing materials.
2. Monitor the operation of mechanical and electrical systems such as boilers, ventilation, generators, compressors, and security gates.
3. Conduct weekly testing of fire alarm systems and emergency/security gates and doors.
4. Coordinate with contractors on-site, providing location information for electrical and mechanical plant, and escort unvetted contractors to ensure security.
5. Report unsafe practices or concerns promptly.
6. Assist with porterage, transportation, and delivery of supplies, furniture, equipment, and property.
7. Support external events logistically.
8. Assist with office relocations and movements.
9. Maintain site yards, outside areas, and garden areas in a clean and tidy condition.
10. Assist with fuel deliveries, taking stock dips, and replenishing stock levels.
11. Manage vehicle sundries such as bulb replacements, wheel changes, puncture repairs, and liquid top-ups.
12. Undertake Health & Safety training, including manual handling, asbestos awareness, working at heights, and portable appliance testing.
13. Maintain competence in portable appliance testing and record-keeping.
14. Assist in creating housekeeping rules.
15. Provide feedback on conditions via workflow devices, managing requests for service using workflow technology.
Essential Criteria:
1. Willingness to undertake relevant Health & Safety training, including Manual Handling and COSHH.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of plumbing, painting/decorating, carpentry, and electrical work, ideally from a trade background.
3. Ability to undertake physically demanding activities.
4. Good communication skills.
5. Flexibility regarding working hours and locations.
6. Current driving license with ability to drive a manual vehicle, and willingness to pass organizational assessments.
7. Initiative and self-motivation.
8. Awareness of equality issues relevant to the role.
