Overview
This is a position for a psychology graduate interested in working with neurodiverse children and young people. The school is based in Bath and supports secondary aged pupils with a range of learning and behavioural needs. All students have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) detailing their care and support needs. The school provides a therapeutic, specialist environment with a curriculum that covers core subjects and prepares students for GCSEs and Functional Skills.
About the School
The school is a specialist secondary provision for students with learning needs such as autism, Down syndrome, speech and language challenges, social and emotional needs, and a provision for deaf students. Classes typically range from 6–8 students and focus on effective communication techniques. There are therapy rooms and designated areas for support from therapists including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists and counsellors. An Integrated Therapeutic Approach and extensive 1:1 support are provided for every pupil. Specialist communication methods such as Makaton and PECS are used. A focus on preparing students for GCSE subjects is maintained, building a curriculum that works for their individual needs. The school encourages LSAs who know their objectives and who would like to continue their journey to become a speech and language therapist.
