Resident Welfare Officer

Salary up to £28,917 per annum plus a car allowance. Full‑time, Permanent.
About the role
Mears Housing Management seeks a Resident Welfare Officer to support a new service designed to help vulnerable individuals avoid homelessness and transition into settled accommodation. Front‑line role combining administrative, practical and pastoral responsibilities. Floating support to service users, manage interim housing and access resources to move forward. Balance hands‑on support and efficient case management. Strong focus on safeguarding and service delivery.
Key responsibilities
* Manage your own diary and property portfolio: inspections, raise work orders for repairs (including voids) and follow up on completed work.
* Balance administrative duties with direct support work: flexibility, time management, commitment to service delivery.
* Maintain regular contact with service users through face‑to‑face visits and telephone calls to encourage engagement with appointments and support services.
* Support service users with health, finances, repairs and move‑on process; use empathy, problem‑solving skills and a practical approach.
* Assist with appointments and referrals, providing fallback support when necessary; good understanding of local services and initiative.
* Help users find and secure suitable accommodation, advocating effectively on behalf of the client.
* Arrange food parcels and ensure access to essential resources.
* Contribute to a front‑line team supporting vulnerable individuals (drug misuse, homelessness, mental health challenges, trafficking, offending histories).
* Assess individual and family needs and identify appropriate support packages to maintain independence.
* Use a full UK driving licence to travel between properties and appointments.
Essential skills and experience
* Demonstrable experience in a comparable role within housing, support or welfare services.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general IT competence.
* Excellent communication skills with clients and colleagues; ability to manage conflict and challenging situations.
* Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently.
* Supportive, trustworthy, empathetic and patient.
* Full UK driving licence.
