Location: Norwich based – occasional travel to other sites in the county
Pay rate: £22 per hour
Hours: Full time, Monday to Friday, including shift work and on-call rota
Role Overview
We are seeking a Network & Telecoms Engineer to provide technical leadership in the design, implementation and ongoing support of the Trust’s data network, security infrastructure and telephony systems.
This is a technical role within the IT Services team. You will work across networking, security and telephony, leading on new projects and major implementations while also supporting operational service delivery, including second line support and participation in the on-call rota.
You will work closely with the Network Services Manager, Project Management Office, internal IT teams and external suppliers to ensure the Trust’s infrastructure is resilient, secure and fit for purpose in supporting high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide technical leadership for the design, installation, upgrade and maintenance of complex LAN, WAN, security and telephony infrastructure
* Investigate and resolve complex network, security and telephony incidents, working with internal teams and third-party suppliers
* Support the Network Services Manager to ensure infrastructure operates at optimum performance and availability
* Use network management and monitoring tools to analyse performance, produce reports and recommend improvements
* Provide second line support through the IT Service Desk in line with agreed SLAs
* Manage and escalate incidents appropriately to maintain service continuity
* Lead or contribute to infrastructure projects, working with the PMO and technical colleagues
* Promote and apply ITIL best practice, contributing to the development and ownership of ITIL processes
* Ensure all requests and incidents are logged, tracked and resolved in line with standards and procedures
* Participate in shift patterns and the on-call rota to provide out-of-hours support
* Significant experience working in large, complex network environments
* Strong technical expertise in networking, security and telephony
* Proven experience diagnosing and resolving complex infrastructure issues
* Experience providing out-of-hours / on-call IT support
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* Ability to manage competing priorities in a high-pressure environment
* Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders
* Strong customer-service mindset and “can-do” attitude
* Experience delivering documentation, standards and project outputs
Technical Experience (Essential / Desirable)
* Enterprise LAN/WAN environments
* Network security and firewall technologies
* Network monitoring and performance tools
Desirable experience with:
* Check Point firewalls
Qualifications & Certifications
* ITIL Foundation
* Check Point CCSE
* Mitel telephony certifications
Additional Information
* Participation in an on-call rota is mandatory
* Shift work may be required
* Manual handling and VDU use form part of the role
* Travel between Trust sites is required
