Therapy Assistant

Darlington Community Therapy Team are looking to recruit a Therapy Assistant to support community therapies. The role will work under the direction of qualified therapy staff across the areas of physiotherapy and occupational therapy. The therapy team oversees a comprehensive portfolio of rehabilitation and casemanagement in patients' own homes, in care home settings and within clinics.
Main duties of the job
You will work as part of the team alongside the Therapists and Assistant Practitioners, following the specific plan of care implemented by the registered professional and focusing on a strength‑based approach to rehabilitation. You will work across Darlington and surrounding areas, including patients' own homes, care homes and intermediate‑care rehabilitation beds, and will carry out administrative and housekeeping tasks to support the service and patient care.
Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will support the therapy team in community settings in providing high‑quality interventions for patients requiring physiotherapy and occupational therapy. They will provide holistic care for patients without direct supervision at times but will be accountable to the responsible therapist. The role requires a proactive attitude and promotion of health promotion and informed patient choice. Continuing professional development and adherence to trust policies and procedures is essential.
The post is based at Hundens Lane, Darlington, with travelling to patients' own homes, care homes and clinics across the Darlington area as required.

Special Requirements
* Ability to travel independently across the county to fulfil the requirements of the post
Statutory Registration
* Knowledge of HCPC and accountability
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
* Foundation degree in health and social care or willingness to work towards one
* Teaching certificate or equivalent
Experience
* Experience of clinical supervision
* Experience in a therapy‑specific role with physiotherapists and occupational therapists
* Experience working in a community setting
* Experience of audit/research
Special Skills & Knowledge
* Evidence of team working
* Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Good organisational and problem‑solving skills
* Ability to observe and record physical and social changes of a patient and report immediately
* Ability to act alone in an emergency situation
* Ability to prioritise work daily to meet service demands
* Confidence in the use of email and basic IT skills
