The Role
We’re looking for an ambitious Industrial Control Systems 2nd Engineer to join our team. This is a brand‑new role that offers long‑term development and genuine autonomy to become a technical expert on Operational Technology (OT) assets and plant control systems (T3000, GE MkVI, MkVIe, ABB 800XA, Siemens S7) at Spalding Power Station. The role has been created as a key support to our Lead ICS Engineer for the safe, reliable management of the plant, with a special focus on industrial control systems and OT cyber‑security.

What You’ll Be Doing
* Become a technical expert on site regarding the management of all OT assets, including plant control systems (T3000, GE MkVI, MkVIe, ABB 800XA, Siemens S7 and other PLC‑based and server‑based systems)
* Provide recommendations to the Lead ICS Engineer regarding OT life‑cycle management, upgrades, obsolescence management, spares inventory, CAPEX plans, etc.
* Support site lead on designing, implementing and managing cyber‑security arrangements to comply with regulatory and company requirements.
* Follow and maintain cyber‑security policies, playbooks, risk assessments and procedures in accordance with recent industry guidance and standards.
* Manage risk through lifecycle analysis of systems, understanding threats and vulnerabilities through monitoring, identification, remediation and reporting.
* Plan, execute and manage C&I maintenance and project scope during plant outages, in both a hands‑on and a supervisory capacity.
* Coordinate and manage engineering project work, development and implementation.
* Coordinate with procurement to develop technical specifications and ensure successful tendering.
* Manage contract delivery and close‑out to ensure contractors services are delivered safely, on time, on budget and to specification.
* Liaise with the Operations and Maintenance & Reliability (M&R) Teams to investigate plant issues and implement solutions, by providing C&I experience, knowledge and guidance as required.
* Coordinate Management of Change activities, ensuring plant change and modification procedures are applied.
* Utilise InterGen’s information and action tracking processes to deliver an ongoing continuous improvement program, Risk/Opportunity Register, plant issue register (BITS), plant anomaly cases, Plant Status Review, insurer recommendations, CAPEX program, etc.
* Carry out internal and cross‑site Technical RCA investigations and engineering risk assessments.
* Support the Lead ICS Engineer with alarm management programmes and identifying other opportunities for innovative continuous improvement, developing and implementing solutions from both Cyber & Operational perspectives.
* Attend OEM / 3rd Party training courses where necessary to enhance knowledge and development within the role.

As our new ICS 2nd Engineer, you’re proactive, organised and comfortable working within structured engineering, safety and cyber‑security frameworks. You manage competing priorities, collaborate effectively with operations, engineering and contractors, and take ownership of seeing actions through to completion. You value documentation, robust change control and continuous improvement, and you’re keen to keep developing your technical and cyber‑security expertise.
You have experience in managing industrial OT environments, including Distributed Control Systems, server‑based control systems, virtualised environments, DMZs, SCADA and PLC‑based systems. Experience with specific plant systems is beneficial but not essential. You’ll be used to interpreting and producing PLC, DCS and SCADA codes and logic, along with experience in OT management programmes in areas such as cyber‑security, obsolescence, alarm management and functional safety.
Education/Experience
Minimum of HND in C&I or Electrical/Electronic Engineering discipline with a high level of practical Operational/Maintenance experience and knowledge. (Qualifications below this may be acceptable if accompanied by suitable industry experience or other relevant qualifications).
* You’ll have worked with OT security solutions and have experience operating within regulatory frameworks such as the NIS Directive or the NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework.
* Practical knowledge of ISA/IEC 62443 standards would be highly beneficial.
* A solid understanding of safety standards is essential, and qualifications such as NEBOSH or IOSH would be preferred.
