MEP Quality Engineer – Plymouth (Devonport Royal Dockyard)

Carmichael UK is looking for an experienced MEP Quality Engineer to join a major infrastructure redevelopment project at Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to one of the UK’s most high-profile defence engineering programmes.
The Role
As an MEP Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring the quality of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing works across the project. You’ll oversee inspections, audits, and surveillance activities, ensuring compliance with rigorous Quality Management Systems (QMS). You’ll work closely with both the delivery team and supply chain partners, supporting a strong culture of quality and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Liaise with the client on inspections, witness testing, and surveillance activities
Conduct quality inspections at notified points and complete surveillance reports
Investigate and support resolution of on-site quality issues
Attend and contribute to quality meetings
Deliver quality training modules to staff and supply chain partners
Ensure QMS and quality procedures are robustly implemented on site
Monitor and report on quality-related KPIs and trends
Support development and implementation of ITPs, quality plans, and improvement measures
Ensure timely closeout of NCRs, CARs, and observations
What We’re Looking For
Degree or HNC in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing Engineering, Construction, or Quality-related field
ECS / CSCS PQP or AQP card holder
Strong knowledge of QMS, ITPs, and quality processes
Experience in inspections, surveillance, and problem resolution
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Additional Information
Location: Plymouth – Devonport Royal Dockyard
Hours: 42.5 hours per week (08:00 – 17:00) - Site based
Clearance: BPSS security clearance is required (can take up to 8 weeks)
Eligibility: Candidates must hold a passport from an EU, NATO, Five Eyes, or MISWG member country and have resided in the UK for the past 5 years
