About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Graduate Civil Engineer to join a growing consultancy team in York. The role is ideally suited to a graduate with a good understanding of civil engineering design and principles, together with some prior workplace exposure through a placement, internship, or relevant work experience. The position offers involvement in a wide variety of civil engineering projects across residential, commercial, education, leisure, and industrial sectors, with a particular focus on drainage design, highways, and infrastructure. The successful candidate will gain structured training, mentoring, and support towards achieving Chartered Engineer status.
Responsibilities:
* Assist in the design and analysis of civil engineering projects, including drainage, highways, and infrastructure works.
* Support the preparation of designs and technical documentation in accordance with UK design standards.
* Contribute to drainage strategies with a particular emphasis on Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
* Use design software packages for civil engineering modelling and analysis.
* Work closely with engineers, surveyors, and project managers across multidisciplinary teams.
* Liaise with clients, contractors, and local authorities to support project delivery.
* Contribute to projects from feasibility and outline design through to construction and completion.
Qualifications:
* Degree in Civil Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent).
Required Skills:
* A solid understanding of civil engineering principles, particularly drainage and infrastructure.
* Knowledge of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and current guidance/legislation.
* Some prior workplace exposure (e.g., placement, internship, or relevant work experience).
* Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, design software (e.g., Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, or similar).
* Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
* Commitment to working towards Chartered Engineer status through an approved training scheme.

* Hands-on project experience across multiple civil engineering disciplines.
