Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer to support the investigation and resolution of emerging high-voltage electrical system issues across a number of fleet units. The role will focus on identifying potential failure mechanisms, improving diagnostic processes, and supporting the development of effective maintenance and reliability strategies for critical electrical components.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead technical investigations into transformer and HT cable failures on Class 323 rolling stock.
* Carry out and interpret electrical diagnostic testing, including:
* Insulation Resistance testing
* Ratio testing
* Winding Resistance testing
* Flash testing
* Copper and Iron loss measurements
* Over-potential (Overpot) testing
* Pump running current monitoring
* Pump pressure verification
* Analyse trends and failure data to identify early warning indicators of insulation or component degradation.
* Support root cause analysis and provide technical recommendations for corrective actions.
* Liaise with engineering teams, maintenance staff, and suppliers to implement reliability improvements.
* Produce technical reports outlining findings, test results, and recommended interventions.
* Contribute to the development of improved maintenance and testing regimes.
Essential Skills and Experience
* Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
* Experience working with high-voltage electrical systems.
* Knowledge of transformer diagnostics and insulation systems.
* Practical experience with electrical testing equipment and interpretation of results.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to produce clear technical documentation and reports.
Desirable Experience
* Experience within the rail or rolling stock industry.
* Familiarity with traction transformers and HT cable systems.
* Knowledge of condition monitoring techniques and predictive maintenance.
* Experience supporting root cause analysis investigations.
