The ward clerk provides essential clerical support to ensure the smooth operation of the ward under the supervision of senior colleagues. Responsibilities include greeting staff, patients, and visitors, managing patient case notes, booking transport, and ordering supplies and bed hire. The role also involves maintaining information governance and infection control standards, reporting findings to the ward sister, and supporting administrative tasks such as recording patient information, making appointments, and liaising with clinicians within a multidisciplinary team.
Additional duties include managing patient admissions and discharges using trust software, ensuring timely completion of documentation, and answering telephone queries. The ward clerk must possess good communication and interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with anxious patients and visitors.
