Overview
Balfour Beatty has created iconic buildings and infrastructure globally for 115 years and, with consortium partners, has been selected by bp to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage. This project aims to make Teesside the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster. Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Compression Lead to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
Responsibilities
* Lead BBK's scope for CO compression systems, including mechanical, electrical, and control elements
* Manage interfaces with compressor OEMs, licensors, and EPC partners
* Oversee design reviews, ensuring constructability, safety, and alignment with process requirements
* Translate OEM specifications into buildable MEP packages
* Lead procurement strategy and technical evaluation for compression equipment
* Manage installation sequencing, testing, and commissioning activities
* Ensure compliance with UK regulations (pressure systems, ATEX/DSEAR, rotating machinery standards)
* Provide technical leadership during construction and commissioning, resolving compression-related issues
* Report on progress, risks, and performance of the compression scope
* Capture lessons learned to strengthen BBK's capability in energy transition projects
Qualifications
* Degree (BEng/MEng or equivalent) in Mechanical, Process, or Electrical Engineering
* Significant experience in rotating equipment and/or large compression systems (gas, CO, petrochemical, or power generation)
* Strong knowledge of piping systems, pressure vessels, and plant integration
* Proven track record of managing OEM packages and complex machinery installation
* Familiarity with commissioning of rotating equipment and integrated process systems
* Excellent stakeholder and interface management skills
