Construction Materials Technician Apprentice (Level 3) – BAM Nuttall Limited
Location: Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater, TA5 1UD
Compensation: £20,000 per year (increasing to National Living Wage if aged 21+ after 12 months).
What you will be doing
* Carrying out sampling and testing in line with Standards and customer specifications.
* Carrying out a point of work risk assessment.
* Checking that equipment to be used is calibrated and reporting any broken or damaged equipment to the line manager.
* Entering and completing all records, readings, and results on appropriate sheets arising from the procedure being carried out.
* Communicating clear instructions to site teams based on Client specifications and expectations.
* Providing clear and concise data to demonstrate compliance.
* Carrying out testing using calibrated equipment to demonstrate compliance.
* Delivering daily/weekly work programmes with site teams.
* Maintaining a detailed site diary.
* Maintaining a personal CPD record and CV to demonstrate career development.
* Carrying out any other relevant duties as requested from time to time.
Responsibilities and opportunities
* Work on site and in laboratory environments, gaining hands-on experience in materials testing for construction.
* Learn from BAM colleagues and contribute to project quality control and compliance in major infrastructure environments.
* Develop skills toward becoming a laboratory technician with potential progression post-apprenticeship.
* Progression opportunities include potential permanent roles and salary progression after completion of the apprenticeship.

BAM Nuttall Limited is committed to developing emerging talent. The apprenticeship runs for 21 months with on-the-job training and online study to achieve a Level 3 Materials Testing Technician apprenticeship. The program aims to lead to career opportunities in laboratory testing and related fields, including potential progression to Level 6 qualifications.

About You
The ideal candidate will be reliable, highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work to instructions. You should be methodical, accurate, and take pride in ensuring testing parameters meet client requirements. You should be curious about science and technology, eager to learn, and collaborative. A full UK driving license and access to a car are required due to the role’s location.
Eligibility
Minimum requirements per UK government schemes for Apprenticeships include being over 18, not in full-time education, and having the right to work in the UK. You should have lived in the UK for at least 3 years. If you already hold a Level 3, degree, or higher qualification, you may not be eligible for apprenticeship funding as the program targets upskilling or reskilling.
