Description We’re looking for a friendly and professional Receptionist to join our team at New County Hall, Truro. As the first point of contact for members of the public, Councillors, and visiting staff, you’ll provide a warm welcome, manage enquiries via phone and email, and help direct visitors to the right teams. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, you’ll play an important role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of New County Hall and representing Cornwall Council and its group of companies to our customers. Key Responsibilities Welcome and signpost visitors, Councillors, and staff. Handle phone and email enquiries, responding or redirecting as needed. Manage meeting room bookings and support Teams meetings. Assist with daily site operations and provide hands-on support when required. Act as a First Aider and Fire Warden (training provided if not already qualified). Supporting wider council staff, setting up Teams Meetings, escorting to meeting locations and providing a ‘hands on’ support function. This position is 40 hours over a two-week rota period (equivalent to 20 hr p/w part-time contract). The shift pattern is 0800-1700, Thursday, Friday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by one shift working week off. There are two shifts, each shift comprising two Receptionists. Within the working week, you will be expected to support the existing rota, which is detailed below: Week One 0800-1630 Thurs, Fri, Mon, Tues, Wed. Week Two Non-working week Thurs, Fri, Mon, Tues, Wed. Week Three 0800-1630, Thurs, Fri, Mon, Tues, Wed. Week Four Non-working week Thurs, Fri, Mon, Tues, Wed. This position is based on-site and due to the requirements of the Receptionist role, there is no opportunity to work remotely. There is an expectation for leave cover between the shifts, where additional days are worked, this will be classed as overtime. About You Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in a customer-facing or public contact role. Confident using Microsoft Office and other relevant systems. Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks calmly and professionally. Willingness to complete First Aid and Fire Warden training. If these are not held on application, it is a requirement of the role to undertake both courses soon after joining the team. Successful completion of both courses is essential to the role and completion is a requirement during the probation period.
