Job Description
As a PAT Engineer you will be responsible for conducting electrical safety testing on a wide range of appliances in various settings, from hospitals to retail outlets. You will need to use testing instruments, maintain equipment, interpret results, and provide reports and completion certificates.
You will travel to client sites, record findings in a dedicated PAT test report book or electronic system, and explain results to users. Accurate record‑keeping and adherence to relevant regulations are essential.
The work includes packing tools and equipment into your van and performing tests on appliances such as microwaves, kettles and computers, ensuring all appliances are safe for continued use. You may work part‑time or full‑time, with flexible hours.
The role requires reliable, honest, and proactive individuals with a "can‑do" attitude, who keep all equipment up‑to‑date and maintain a good working order.
A typical day of a portable appliance testing (PAT) engineer

The tester informs users of results and possible necessary actions. Findings are recorded in a PAT test report book or electronically and optionally completion certificates and checklists are completed.
Throughout the day, the tester moves between locations, sometimes alone or in a team, staying organised and ensuring accurate and efficient completion of all tests.
This physically and mentally demanding role rewards the person with variety and opportunities for advancement.
