Learning Support Assistant – Special Needs Support

Location: Winchester area, Hampshire
Salary: £13.75 per hour

A respected educational institution in the Winchester area is currently seeking dedicated and compassionate Support Assistants to join their specialist team working with children with special educational needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young learners in a supportive, inclusive, and well-equipped environment.

The school is set on a spacious, semi-rural campus just a short distance from Winchester city centre, providing a calm and secure setting that supports focused learning. The site includes modern facilities and dedicated spaces designed to meet the needs of pupils with a broad range of complex requirements, including physical disabilities, learning difficulties, and communication challenges.

Role Overview:
Successful candidates will work closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to provide tailored support for individual pupils. You will assist in delivering personalised learning plans that enable pupils to access the curriculum, build essential skills, and support their social, emotional, and behavioural development.

Key Responsibilities:

* Providing hands-on support to children with special educational needs during lessons and extracurricular activities

* Assisting in the delivery and monitoring of individualised education plans (IEPs) and targeted interventions

* Encouraging positive social interaction, emotional resilience, and appropriate behaviour

* Supporting communication using a variety of approaches and specialist techniques

* Maintaining a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment that promotes wellbeing

* Working collaboratively with teaching staff and multidisciplinary teams to support pupil progress

Candidate Requirements:

* A valid Child Workforce DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one at personal expense

* Demonstrated patience, empathy, and strong communication skills

* Previous experience with children with special educational needs is beneficial but not essential — full training will be provided

* Ability to work effectively within a team and follow guidance from education and therapy professionals

* A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
