Post No. POSN005087 - 2 x Housing Advice, Support and Partnerships Team Manager Lead change, strengthen services, and help prevent homelessness across Newport. We're recruiting two experienced Team Managers to help shape the future of homelessness prevention and housing support in Newport. These roles are central to our work to make homelessness rare, brief and unrepeated. If you're a calm, confident leader with a strong understanding of housing advice, homelessness services and partnership working, this is a real opportunity to guide an essential frontline service. About the Role Both posts sit within our Homelessness Prevention Service. You'll lead teams delivering trauma-informed, person-centred support and contribute directly to Newport's Rapid Rehousing approach. While the purpose of the roles is the same, each post has its own focus and impact. 1. Homelessness Prevention You'll lead the team that steps in to prevent homelessness - often at the moment someone realises their housing is at risk. The work is practical, fast-paced and centred on helping people maintain their homes, if it is safe to do so. This includes: - Supporting people asked to leave the family home - Speaking with private landlords to prevent evictions - Helping residents understand their rights, options and next steps - Using mediation, negotiation and practical support to stabilise contracts A typical week might include: - Reviewing urgent cases where early action could prevent homelessness - Guiding staff through complex housing advice decisions - Working with landlords to resolve issues before they escalate - Working with support services to make sure interventions are working Your leadership will mean fewer people reaching crisis point and more people remaining safely housed in their communities. 2. Complex Housing Needs You'll lead the team that supports residents facing the biggest barriers to stable housing. This is where steady leadership and strong multi-agency work make the most difference. This includes: - Those who are sleeping rough who need consistent, compassionate engagement - People experiencing domestic abuse who need safe housing options - Prison leavers who require accommodation and support when resettling - Those facing multiple challenges, such as trauma, addiction or poor mental health A typical week might include: - Coordinating multi-agency support for someone with high-risk needs - Providing guidance on safeguarding concerns or complex case planning - Supporting staff to build trust with people who find services difficult to access - Working with partners across health, criminal justice and specialist support Your work will help people move from crisis into stability and towards long-term, secure housing. What You'll Lead - A well-run frontline service providing high-quality housing advice and homelessness support - Trauma-informed, person-centred assessments and interventions - Strong, proactive partnerships across internal teams and external agencies - A confident, motivated team delivering consistent, safe practice - Continuous improvement using data, feedback and evidence-based approaches You'll Bring - Leadership experience in housing, homelessness or a related field - Up-to-date knowledge of housing law, Welsh Government policy and best practice - Confidence when managing complex cases and making clear decisions - Strong partnership-working skills across multiple agencies - A commitment to prevention, safeguarding and long-term stability for residents Why These Roles Matter Your leadership will shape how Newport supports people at risk of homelessness - whether through early prevention or intensive work with those facing multiple barriers to accessing services. You'll help ensure our services are consistent, confident and focused on strong outcomes for residents across the city. Why choose Newport City Council? As well as the opportunity to take on an influential and meaningful leadership role, we offer: - A generous pension contribution scheme - 26 days annual leave, with the option to purchase additional leave - Strong opportunities for growth, progression and development - A range of Staff Networks that support an open and diverse culture - Flexible working options Ready to Make a Difference?
