Job Description
Our Investigation and Remediation Solutions (I & RS) team is looking for enthusiastic Environmental Graduate Consultants to work in the Croydon office, South London. This is an immediate fill.
Responsibilities
Graduates will be paired with an experienced member of the team to support learning and development through a mentoring programme. Key duties include:
* Undertaking desk studies, site investigations, risk assessments and remediation works, including laboratory procurement for environmental analysis, data analysis, and factual and interpretative report writing.
* Coordinating field service and laboratory subcontractors and supervising ground investigation works, collecting soil, groundwater and gas samples and data during assessment and remedial action activities at various sites in the UK (and potentially overseas).
* Compiling and interpreting field and analytical data into conceptual models to inform risk assessments for human health, ground/surface water and ground gas/vapour and designing mitigation measures and remediation solutions.
* Advocating best health and safety practice and ensuring issues are addressed throughout the life of a project.
* Implementing AECOM’s industry‑leading principles of environmental protection and sustainability within the I & RS business.

Qualifications
Degree: MSc preferred but not essential. A degree in Environmental Engineering, Engineering Geology, Applied Geology, Exploration Geology, Environmental Geology, Physical Geography, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Process Engineering (with modules on land contamination), Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Mineral Resources, Environmental Chemistry, Land Reclamation and Restoration, Environmental Assessment and Control – all must have contaminated land interest.
Required Knowledge
* Practical application of geological and hydro‑geological concepts
* Chemistry
* Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
* Interest in contaminated land
Required Qualities
* Willingness and ability to work outdoors in sometimes challenging conditions.
* Willingness and ability to travel and work away from home for periods of time.
* Full driving licence or access to reliable transport.
* Flexibility with working hours and locations, frequent travel within 1–2 hrs drive of home office, and occasionally further afield.
* Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with confidence to engage with clients, colleagues, stakeholders and subcontractors.
* Willingness and ability to learn and master new tasks quickly under pressure.
* Ability to structure and prioritise work effectively within the team.
* Ability to work independently without losing initiative and focus.
* Strong research and report‑writing skills, including web‑based research.
* Strong numeracy skills.
* Self‑starter, enthusiastic, hard‑working, with ambition and drive.
* Solid attention to detail and thorough approach to work.
* Commercial awareness for business development, marketing, and proposal preparation.
Beneficial Experience and Skills
* Field investigation experience
* Experience collecting groundwater data and samples
* Understanding of contaminated land assessment
* Understanding of field sampling and data review
* Experience working in a corporate or consultancy environment
* Fluency in other languages is an advantage
* Volunteer or placement experience in consultancy
