About the Position
Applications are invited from enthusiastic, well‑motivated individuals to work in the Department of Immunology and Immunogenetics within Southmead Hospital. The laboratory is housed in a modern, purpose‑built facility and the successful candidate will join a busy but friendly team.
The Immunology department at North Bristol NHS Trust provides a diagnostic service for a local population of approximately 500,000 and a referral service throughout the South West.
Shift Pattern
There are two vacancies. Duties will involve participation in a shift pattern 7‑3, 9‑5 and an afternoon/evening start time (exact times to be confirmed). Rotation between shifts will be on a monthly rota introduced in due course. Hours and days may change depending on laboratory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in day‑to‑day support work of the Immunology laboratory, including data entry, reception and preparation of clinical specimens for testing.
* Perform general laboratory duties such as cleaning and decontamination of equipment.
* Carry out clerical duties including scanning, filing, photocopying and managing paperwork.
* Process samples that do not meet required criteria and prioritise urgent samples, liaising with colleagues on receipt.
* Maintain laboratory consumables and personal protective equipment, and perform waste removal per trust policy.
* Assist in cleaning and decontamination of equipment such as centrifuges and dispose of faecal samples in line with laboratory policy.
Additional Details
This post is predominantly a data‑entry position with some sample processing and other laboratory and housekeeping roles. The post holder will be based mainly in the Immunology laboratory.
