Trainee Drainage Tanker Operative (HGV Driver)
Our client, a rapidly expanding leader in environmental services, is seeking a dedicated Trainee Drainage Tanker Operative to join their specialist team. This is a premier opportunity for an established HGV driver to transition into a highly skilled, recession-proof sector of the transport industry.
While no previous drainage experience is required, the successful candidate will possess a full UK HGV licence (Category C or C+E) held for a minimum of 2 years & demonstrate a sharp mind, a strong work ethic, and a genuine desire to master the complexities of tanker operations through comprehensive on-the-job training.
Location: Chatham, Kent
Salary: £38,000 – £42,000 per annum (Plus Overtime & Call-out)
The Role & Key Responsibilities
The Trainee will transition from a standard driving role to a specialist operative position, blending high-level vehicle handling with technical environmental works.

Vehicle Operation: Safe driving and operation of HGV vacuum tankers.

Specialist Drainage Works: Assisting with the maintenance of septic tanks, interceptors, and pumping stations.

Technical Equipment: Utilizing suction hoses and high-pressure jetting equipment to resolve site issues.
*
Compliance & Safety: Conducting rigorous daily vehicle checks, basic maintenance, and ensuring all waste documentation and job paperwork are completed accurately.

Site Safety: Maintaining a high standard of safety while working on diverse customer sites and public highways.
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate is an experienced driver who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty and is looking for a role that offers more variety than a standard "A-to-B" haulage job.

Licensing: A full UK HGV licence (Category C or C+E) held for a minimum of 2 years.

Credentials: A valid Driver CPC card is essential.

Physicality: Candidates must be physically fit, comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, and happy to perform manual tasks.

Attitude: A reliable, punctual, and safety-focused professional who listens to and learns from their peers.

Flexibility: Must be available for shift variations and willing to work away from home when project requirements dictate.
Working Hours & Compensation

Standard Week: Monday to Friday, 50 hours per week.

Overtime: Plentiful opportunities for overtime, all fully paid.

Call-Out: Once training is complete, the candidate will join a call-out rota (offering significant additional earning potential).
