Based in the beautiful Scottish Borders (circa 1 hour south of Edinburgh), Grw Talent's client is a well-established global manufacturer of pre-connectorised, blown fibre cable, and ducted network solutions and is at the forefront of the fibre-to-the-X industry. They have two sites in Scotland and form part of an international business stretching into Europe, the USA and Middle-East. The group is undergoing extensive growth and change right now. To help facilitate this, they now need to recruit a site based Engineering Manager.

The Site Engineering Manager is responsible for the leadership, compliance, and operational performance of the site's engineering team. This includes delivering on-site engineering projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing asset reliability, and driving continuous improvement to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations. Reporting into the UK Engineering Manager you will work to align site-level goals with broader organisational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Management & Leadership - oversee day-to-day activities of the maintenance and engineering team.
Equipment Reliability & Continuous Improvement
Develop business cases for capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects, coordinating with the UK Engineering Manager for approval and support.
Act as the key engineering contact for the site, liaising with the UK Engineering Manager.
Asset Condition and Maintenance Culture - the incoming manager will play a key role in stabilising asset reliability, embedding planned maintenance routines, and leading the cultural shift toward a proactive approach supported by a newly implemented CMMS.
Safety and Compliance Improvements - Several areas of the site require focused attention to bring equipment and practices fully in line with PUWER and wider health and safety standards. Driving a consistent and visible safety-first culture will have to be an immediate priority.
Team Development and Structure - The new manager will need to set standards, build engagement, and develop a performance-driven team ethos. This role will suit a hands-on, structured manager who can drive cultural change, implement robust maintenance systems, and lead both the technical and behavioural transformation needed to establish a best-practice engineering function.

You should be a Time Served Engineer through a recognised apprenticeship (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline) or have an HNC or higher / equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or relevant discipline). A Leadership qualification (e.g. ILM level 2 or higher, CMI or equivalent) demonstrating formal leadership training and skill would also be beneficial.

You'll need to have experience in maintenance or engineering roles within a manufacturing environment and be able to demonstrate success in leading maintenance teams and scheduling preventative maintenance programs, with a mechanical and/or electrical background. Familiarity with CMMS usage (e.g., Fiix CMMS) for work order management and reporting would be great. Also beneficial would be knowledge of root cause analysis methods and continuous improvement tools (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) and the ability to analyse CMMS data to identify trends and drive maintenance-related decision-making.

This is a site-based role. Your base salary of is supplemented by a good range of benefits, career development, training and the chance to join a friendly and committed team and culture.
