Community Dental Receptionist – Barrow Dental Clinic

We are seeking a Community Dental Receptionist/Patient Administrator to support routine dental reception duties within the Community and Special Care Dental Services across the Furness and South Lakes locality. The role is based at Barrow Dental Centre, with occasional duties at other sites in the area.
Main duties
The purpose of the Special Care & Community Dental Services is to provide routine and specialist dental care to patients referred to the service. Key responsibilities include:
* Managing routine reception duties for community and special care dental services.
* Ensuring efficient administrative arrangements for patient referrals.
* Supporting the dental team with appointment scheduling and patient administration.
* Assisting with oral health promotion and prevention programmes.
* Participating in national dental epidemiological surveys and screening programmes.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
The post requires DBS checks under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. DBS costs are to be deducted from salary:
* Standard Check: £28.00 over 4 months or one-off payment.
* Enhanced Check: £56.00 over 4 months or one-off payment.

Qualifications
* Secondary level education
* Literacy and numeracy skills to GCSE level or equivalent
* CLAIT certificate or equivalent (including Word & Excel)
Knowledge & Experience
* Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Customer‑facing role experience.
* Experience working with the public.
* Knowledge of the Special Care & Community Dental Service Pathway and Criteria.
* Knowledge of local protocol for accessing emergency care via Dental Direct and the triage system.
Skills and Aptitudes
* Organisational skills.
* Good telephone communication skills.
* Excellent person‑to‑person communication, particularly with people of compromised physical or mental capacity.
* Empathetic and professional approach.
* Knowledge of local dental and NHS services.
* Customer Care Service training.
* Ability to record meeting minutes.

* Ability to travel to other dental sites in Cumbria.
