Overview
We have a vacancy for a full-time substantive (10 PA) Medical Oncology Consultant to join the experienced Oncology team at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust. The post is pan-UHMB and involves working across at least two of the three UHMB sites (Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital and Furness General Hospital). The role may involve an interest in Upper GI and Colorectal Cancer and shared acute oncology duties with the consultant team. The appointee will work in two tumour sites (upper GI and colorectal cancer) in partnership with the UHMB oncology team and visiting Clinical Oncologists from Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. There is an active research department, with opportunities to be involved in research and act as PI for trials. The post includes contribution to the acute oncology inpatient service and collaboration with the acute oncology ANP team. There is currently no on-call commitment associated with the post.
Responsibilities
• Provide medical oncology clinical care across UHMB sites, with focus on upper GI and colorectal cancer.
• Participate in acute oncology inpatient services and collaborate with the acute oncology ANP team.
• Engage with the cancer multidisciplinary team and participate in research activity, including the potential to act as Principal Investigator for trials in areas of interest.
• Work across UHMB sites (RLI, WGH, FGH) and contribute to the Trust-wide cancer services including systemic therapy (SACT) across sites.
• Contribute to continuing education, teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and students.

Qualifications
Essential
* Full GMC registration and licence to practice. Specialist Registration within Medical Oncology, or within 6 months of award at time of interview. Specialist Registrar in Medical Oncology or equivalent recognised training.
* Broad exposure to management of cancer.
* Ability to supervise junior doctors to plan and conduct research and audit; experience with audit and implementing change.
* Experience of teaching and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students; experience supervising junior medical staff.
* Demonstrated effective teamwork, time management, organisational ability and understanding of NHS processes. Commitment to corporate responsibility.
* Keen and enthusiastic in the field of Medical Oncology; ability to travel as required.
Desirable
* MD or PhD degree.
* Experience in the tumour sites described in the job description and experience in Acute Oncology.
* Publications in peer-reviewed journals; attendance at educational skills or teaching courses.
