The Role:
Depending on the school, responsibilities may include:
Teaching English Language and English Literature across KS3 and KS4
Planning and delivering engaging, well‑structured lessons
Marking, assessment, and tracking pupil progress
Supporting pupils of mixed abilities to achieve strong outcomes
Maintaining high expectations of behaviour and engagement
Contributing positively to the English department and wider school community
Who We're Keen to Hear From:
Qualified English Teachers with QTS/QTLS (essential)
ECTs looking for the right school to start or continue their career
Experienced teachers seeking stability, progression, or a fresh environment
Teachers relocating to or within the Portsmouth area
English specialists confident delivering GCSE (any exam board)You do not need to have resigned - this is about planning ahead and securing the right opportunity for September.
Contract Details:
Position: English Teacher (QTS)
Location: Portsmouth
Start Date: September (new academic year)
Contract Type: Full‑time, long‑term or permanent
Salary: £32,916 - £51,047 per annum (M1-U3, paid to scale)
Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
QTS/QTLS required
Secondary English teaching experience preferred
Safeguarding training required (can be provided)
Eligibility:
Right to work in the UK
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
Two recent teaching references
