The role

As a Finance Officer, you will manage annual expenditure, providing essential financial analysis that supports decision‑making across agencies. Your responsibilities include summarising, analysing and detailing financial transactions, maintaining accurate accounts, and advising on budgets and forecasts. You will also translate complex financial information for non‑financial stakeholders, fostering financial literacy across the organization.

Line‑management responsibilities may arise, and you will be expected to remain within the Finance Capability for a minimum of five years.

Qualifications

You will have demonstrable experience in a similar role and be actively working towards a Level 4 AAT qualification, or you will hold (or be predicted to obtain) a 2:1 degree or above in Finance, Accounting, Business or Economics.

You should enjoy problem‑solving, collaborate well, build strong stakeholder relationships, and maintain an inclusive, team‑oriented approach. Attention to detail, passion for finance, and commitment to a mission that safeguards the UK are essential.

Training and Development

We support your professional growth by funding recognised financial qualifications (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, etc.) and covering membership fees upon qualification. You will receive paid study leave, a study buddy, line‑manager support, and access to mentoring programmes and peer networks to balance work and study.

Rewards and Benefits

In addition to the starting salary, you will receive:

* 25 days annual leave (rising to 30 days after 5 years of service) and 10.5 public and privilege holidays
* Recognition through the employee performance scheme
* Dedicated development budget
* Interest‑free season ticket loan
* Excellent pension scheme
* Cycle‑to‑work scheme
* Facilities such as gym, restaurant, and on‑site coffee bars (at some locations)
* Paid parental and adoption leave

Equal Opportunities

MI5 values diversity and inclusion, seeking a workforce that reflects society. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, including women, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and those from low socio‑economic backgrounds.
