If you are in the UK on a VISA, please ensure you have no restrictions that would prevent you from taking this post. Our Urgent Treatment Centres treat a wide variety of illnesses and injuries across all age ranges. The HCA will work in a supporting role, providing high-quality patient-centred care under the supervision of Urgent Care Practitioners and General Practitioners.
The Urgent Care Service also provides home visits by clinicians who require a Healthcare Assistant / Driver to transport them to patient homes across County Durham and support during visits.
Additionally, the HCA will provide a patient transport service to support patient access to Urgent Treatment Centre appointments, following risk assessment by a clinician. The HCA will carry out routine duties such as recording observations, taking blood and urine samples, monitoring and escorting patients under supervision.
The role involves performing ECG recordings, minor dressings, and applying immobilisation techniques such as splints and plaster-of-paris back slabs.
Other duties include stock checks, restocking consulting rooms, maintaining the home visiting car, and performing vehicle checks. Training will be provided as required.
We seek a dynamic, enthusiastic, and experienced Urgent Care Healthcare Assistant with a valid UK driving licence. From April 9th, 2025, candidates must have at least two years of NHS HCA experience for sponsorship consideration (sponsorship will only be considered if your visa is expiring within 3 months).
If shortlisted, you must accept an interview slot in the system to proceed, even if previously arranged with the manager. You must also provide all certificates listed as essential in the person specification to complete pre-employment checks.
Our hospital services are based at Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We also operate a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland, community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield, and Weardale, as well as over 80 community settings and patient homes.
We particularly welcome applications from disabled and Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates, as these groups are under-represented.
