Overview
The East Sussex NHS Diabetic Eye Screening Programme is seeking candidates who are interested in training towards being a Diabetic Eye Screener Grader or who are already a qualified Screener and/or Grader. The training involves completion of a two-year diploma with on‑the‑job support and training. The post is based at Bexhill Hospital with travel to various healthcare settings within East Sussex to undertake screening clinics.
Responsibilities
* Work as part of a team and, when required, independently to develop and deliver the programme.
* Carry out clinical duties in line with National Quality Assurance Standards.
* Conduct data collection and analysis, liaise with internal and external contacts, and participate in service improvement projects.
* Develop and maintain a high degree of expertise in the screening and grading process, undertaking both fundus and OCT grading and, on accreditation, participate in diagnostic identification of patients with sight-threatening diabetic retinopathy.
* Work some evenings and weekend clinics as required.
Training and Qualifications
* Aim to qualify in the Diploma for Health Screening.
* The trainee Screener/Grader will become a key member of the team responsible for the effective delivery of a diabetic eye screening and grading service.
* Post holder will be required to work in a predominantly darkened room and may work alone at times; concentration for long periods is essential.
