A whole-time/part-time post as consultant in Cardiology is available now based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford University Hospital.

The appointment is on a whole-time/part-time basis but applications are welcome from those who wish to job share.

Any person who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis, in consultation with consultant colleagues. Suitably qualified job-share candidates will receive serious consideration.

The postholder’s duties will be primarily at John Radcliffe Hospital with coronary lab activity at Milton Keynes University Hospital but it is a condition of the appointment that the postholder will be willing to work in any of the Trust’s locations.

Main duties of the job

OUHFT is a large tertiary cardiac centre serving a population of million that undertakes approximately PCI procedures including PPCIs and approximately TAVIs per annum.

The successful applicant will support the ongoing development of the established invasive coronary service, and the growth of a coronary network to consolidate regional services. They will help to provide a non-emergency weekend coronary invasive service to support rollout of a pathway for acute admissions.

There is a growing need for further consolidation of coronary invasive service across the referring centres and this appointment will have a role for strengthening these links by attending local MDT’s and provision of specialist clinics for complex cases.

All consultant cardiologists participate in a consultant of the week rota for general cardiology, currently approx. in weeks. On these occasions the consultant is released from morning fixed commitments to undertake CCU ward rounds, email advice line and this commitment is reviewed periodically and may change following consultation.

The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides integrated cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery services for health authorities in the Oxford region and for a number of health authorities in neighbouring regions. The population served is approximately million.

The successful applicant will join existing consultant cardiology colleagues who provide comprehensive secondary and tertiary care services. The NHS Department works closely with the University Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, with academic medical staff and NHS consultants working across both Departments. Academic interests cover myocardial hypertrophy, vascular biology, and cardiac CT and MRI.

The Cardiology Department delivers comprehensive local services to Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties in its role as the district general hospital, while also providing a full tertiary service in interventional cardiology. Strong collaborative relationships with neighbouring district general hospitals support a steady flow of both elective and emergency referrals.
