Overview

Production Chef Apprentice - Dorking

Summary: Come and join us on a National Trust apprenticeship where we will support and develop you to play an integral part in our work to tackle climate change, and help people and nature thrive. You do not need experience for this role, just plenty of enthusiasm and a desire to learn. As a Production Chef apprentice at Polesden Lacey, you'll be working as a member of the Food & Beverage team to produce dishes for visitors to enjoy in our caf. You will work with centrally developed standardised recipes and menus, producing food using a majority of pre-prepared ingredients often in high volumes. Further information on the Apprenticeship Standard here: Production chef / Skills England. This role can lead to a Senior Production Chef L3 apprenticeship after additional experience gained in role. When applying for this vacancy, please ensure your assessment question responses are under 3500 characters.

What it's like to work here

Our cafes are special places where people like to gather, rest and refuel during their visit to the National Trust. In the Caf at Polesden Lacey, situated within the Stable Courtyard, the full menu has a variety of hot and cold options. We also have a range of delicious cakes and classic cream teas. There are plenty of indoor tables, as well as an outdoor seating area, and plenty of picnic spots around the park. Your training will be delivered both by a Learning Coach who will visit you in the workplace every 4-6 weeks, teaching and learning sessions held online, lots of on the job learning and support every day in the workplace. Polesden Lacey is a busy property with a large and enthusiastic Food and Beverage team running 2 cafes and a coffee trailer. As part of our kitchen team you would be working in our main caf, producing food for all 3 outlets, with a focus on lunch service. In this fast-paced environment no two days are the same, but no matter what our team works hard together to create a happy and efficient working environment. Because we are in a rural area, please think about how youd be able to get here for work, before applying for the job.

What you'll be doing

You'll be working with your Trust Line Manager/Mentor on tasks specific to your apprenticeship. You'll develop the skills & knowledge relevant to the Production Chef apprenticeship standard. You will attend, and prepare for, regular review meetings with your training provider, and be accountable for your own progression. You will be required to complete the mandatory e-learning, courses and training provided.

In addition to the qualities listed in the role profile, we would love to hear from you if you meet the following eligibility criteria by the start date of the role:
