Job Title: Wooden Boatbuilder
We have a vacancy for a wooden boatbuilder to join our current boatbuilding team of two at Avon Boating, Stratford-upon-Avon.
Company Overview
Avon Boating is based at a traditional boathouse in the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon, operating a large fleet of rowing boats, punts, canoes, self-drive rowing boats, electric launches, and classic wooden passenger vessels. Our fleet includes five historic vessels built between 1912 and 1933, all registered as national historic vessels, plus our oldest vessel, a teak launch from 1898.
Role and Responsibilities
* Repair and replace hull planking, floors, frames, steam-bent timbers, soles, coverboards, decks, cabin sides, bulkheads, roofs, and seating.
* General fitting out, caulking, seaming, sanding, painting, and varnishing.
* Renew timber seats, gunnels, knees, and floorboards on fibreglass rowing boats, and repair minor hull damage.
* Work with a variety of vessels, including carvel built passenger vessels, clinker rowing boats, and punts.
Qualifications and Skills
* Ideally, hold City & Guilds certification or be a recent graduate from a boatbuilding school, or have hands-on experience working with a seasoned boatbuilder.
* Demonstrate knowledge and experience in boatbuilding trade.
* Familiarity with modern techniques and materials is advantageous.
* Ability to undertake tasks independently using good judgment and craftsmanship.
Additional Training and Duties
Introduction to electric-drive technology and potential training for the BMET course. During the season, responsibilities include training for the MCA botmaster’s license, working as a vessel skipper at least one day a weekend, and supporting daily operations.
