Job Summary
The IS team at Canonical maintains all of Canonical’s IT production services, supporting over 60 million Ubuntu users.
As a Site Reliability & Gitops Engineer, you will drive operations automation in our private and public clouds, leveraging open source infrastructure as code, CI/CD practices, and Canonical’s automation products.
You will also provide feedback to developers on product operation at scale, contribute to bug reports, and collaborate on design and implementation with other teams.
You’ll be part of a global team supporting Canonicals services, customers, and the Ubuntu community.
As a Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer, you will:
* Develop infrastructure as code practices to enhance automation and efficiency
* Automate software operations across clouds, considering distributed system complexities
* Improve the resilience and scalability of Canonical’s cloud and container services
* Maintain operational responsibility for core services, networks, and infrastructure
* Enhance troubleshooting, capacity planning, and performance monitoring skills using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch
* Collaborate with development teams to design service architecture, documentation, and operational procedures
* Support distributed engineering, operations, and support teams globally
* Focus on automation and larger projects during dedicated development time
* Share expertise through design sessions, mentorship, and collaborative work
* Manage time-critical escalations responsibly
Desired qualifications:
* Deep experience with operations in code, including version control and CI/CD
* Proficiency in Python with large projects
* Knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls
* Experience with Linux storage solutions like Ceph and databases
* Strong understanding of cloud computing technologies
* Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or related fields
* Effective communication skills in English
* Problem-solving skills from kernel to application level
* Flexibility and quick learner attitude
* Adaptability to fast-changing environments
* Comfort working in distributed teams
* Passion for open-source, especially Ubuntu or Debian
