Role: Electronics design engineer Location: Cambridge (Onsite Only) Salary: Competitive, based on experience Experience Required: Minimum 3–5 years Role Overview Deliver complete electronics solutions that meet functional, regulatory, and manufacturing requirements. Ideal for candidates with strong hardware and firmware design skills and a track record of developing commercial products. Who You Are We’re seeking a motivated engineer with a passion for embedded software and electronics design. • Enjoy writing code, simulating circuits, and working with discrete components • Are methodical, organized, and take pride in quality work • Thrive on debugging and root cause analysis • Can develop code from scratch or build on existing codebases • Value documentation and collaborative problem-solving Key Responsibilities • Own the full lifecycle of electronics development—from concept to production • Design, develop, and test embedded firmware and hardware for commercial products • Lead EMC testing, including lab visits and rapid iteration • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies into next-gen products • Maintain complete design documentation (schematics, BOMs, PCB files, source code) • Troubleshoot faults across code, components, and systems • Improve existing designs for performance, cost, and reliability • Support quality, repair, and customer service teams • Collaborate with external contractors to deliver high-quality solutions Skills & Competencies Essential: • Experience designing electronic circuits and embedded software for commercial products • Proficient in schematic capture and PCB layout (Mentor Graphics PADS preferred) • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail • Hands-on hardware design experience including: • Transistor-level circuits • Low-power DC-DC SMPS (<50W) • LED drive circuits • High-speed microcontroller comms (SPI, USB, etc.) • Analog signal processing for microcontroller input • Prototyping skills: fine-pitch soldering, lab equipment use (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer) • Bare-metal and RTOS development in C • Deep understanding of microcontroller peripherals and low-level driver development • Ability to write clean, reusable, non-blocking code • Familiarity with IoT technologies and protocols (Wi-Fi, BLE, MQTT) • Experience working within EN ISO 13485 or ISO 9001 quality systems Qualifications • Degree in Electronics Engineering • 3–5 years of industrial experience in electronics and firmware design Desirable Experience • Working with Far East suppliers • Regulatory knowledge: CE directives, MDR, EMC, RED, LVD • App development for iOS/Android Perks • Competitive salary • Discretionary bonus scheme • 25 days holiday bank holidays • Enhanced parental leave • Generous product discounts • Team socials and lunches • A genuine opportunity to play a key role in a high-growth business
