Power Electronics Design Engineer (Senior / Principal)
Warwickshire, UK
NOTE: This role is suited to a Principal Level engineer or a Senior looking to step into a Principal role. Salary: £60-80k (flexible) + bonus + benefits.
This role requires extensive experience in power electronics design aligned with e-mobility (electrified powertrain) applications - land, sea, or air. Engineers should be capable of taking products through the entire design lifecycle to validated prototypes.
Key elements include:
* Technical leadership, customer-facing, and relationship management capabilities
* Power electronics design and development (electric powertrain systems) - essential
* Design of inverters, AC/DC or DC/DC converters, or OBCs for electric powertrain/vehicle applications or clean energy applications (typically from 60V to a few kV) - essential experience
Working in a customer-centric organization, you will be involved in taking power electronics designs from concept (blank page) to optimized prototypes, primarily for e-mobility/electric vehicle applications, but also potentially for clean energy applications (e.g., inverter/motor controller, DCDC converter, OBC).
Note: e-mobility/electric vehicle applications could include automotive, aerospace, marine, defense, and more.
Preferred candidate profile:
* At least 8-10 years of relevant industry experience or more
* Strong communication skills, experienced in working directly with customers
* Excellent track record in designing power electronics (power inverters, AC/DC or DC/DC converters, or switch mode power supplies) for e-mobility/vehicle electrification or clean energy applications
* Experience in designing digital and mixed-signal control and interface circuits (preferred)
* Experience with PCB layout using tools such as Altium (preferred)
* Experience with variable speed drives, DC-AC traction motors, PMSM control, DC-DC converters, or OBCs
* Degree/master’s in electrical/electronic engineering or related field
* Experience leading projects and providing technical leadership
* Practical engineering aptitude, including hardware development in lab, rig, and vehicle environments
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-centric environment
Beneficial skills:
* Development of systems in simulation environments, HiL systems, etc.
* Designing digital and mixed-signal control and interface circuits (preferred)
* Thermal management/cooling of power electronics systems (preferred)
This principal power electronics design engineer role is commutable from Birmingham, Redditch, Solihull, Nuneaton, Hinckley, Leamington Spa, Banbury, Daventry, Rugby, Coventry, and Lutterworth. Hybrid working is available.
