Job overview
Working closely with teachers to help pupils to achieve their potential, offering them support pastorally and with their academic work under the direction of the teacher.
Your main responsibilities will include:
Supporting Pupils
* Clarifying and explaining instructions;
* Helping pupils use equipment and materials effectively;
* Motivating and encouraging the class;
* Assisting in a range of subject areas, e.g. Language, mathematics, reading, spelling, handwriting/presentation, behaviour, etc.
* Supporting pupils to concentrate on and finish work set;
* Meeting physical needs as required whilst encouraging independence;
* Assisting the teacher in developing appropriate resources.
* Helping to implement individual education plans (IEPs).
* Establishing a supportive relationship with the pupils.
* Developing methods of promoting/reinforcing the child's self-esteem.
* Encouraging acceptance and inclusion of all pupils.
Supporting Teaching
* Assisting with teaching groups of children as directed.
* Participating in cover arrangements for absent staff.
* Contributing to the maintenance of pupil progress records.
* Assisting with any personal or medical needs of the children that may arise.
* Assisting with the development of a suitable programme of support for pupils in the class.
* Participating in discussions about pupil progress and wellbeing with the teacher.
* Assisting with displays, filing, tidying, photocopying and the maintenance of resources.
