Job summary
Are you looking for a rewarding career in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)? We have an exciting opportunity for a professionally registered clinician to join our North Yorkshire, York and Selby (NYYS) CAMHS Crisis team. This team provides a 24/7 service to young people under 18 and their families in most parts of North Yorkshire, York, and Selby (excluding Craven area).
The postholder will conduct psycho-social assessments during crises and develop safety plans with children, young people, and carers to ensure safe return home. Skills in teamwork, clinical activity coordination, and caseload management are essential. The role requires autonomous working ability, travel across the locality, and access to a suitable vehicle. Adjustments can be considered under the Equality Act 2010.
This is a Band 6 Registered Professional role, ideal for those interested in working with children and youth to improve mental health.
Main duties of the job
* Conduct psycho-social assessments of mental health and emotional needs
* Perform thorough risk assessments and formulate care plans including safety strategies
* Work collaboratively with children, young people, carers, and professionals during high distress
* Lead shifts and oversee junior staff, making clinical decisions in crises
* Communicate effectively with young people, families, and professionals
* Provide telephone support and guidance around emotional distress
* Possess knowledge of relevant legislation (MHA, MCA, Children’s Act), safeguarding, risk assessment, and management

Job responsibilities
* Work shifts including days and nights over a 7-day period, including bank holidays
* Coordinate clinical activities and manage caseloads across bases in York, Scarborough, Ripon
* Travel as required, claiming mileage or using pool cars
* Demonstrate leadership and coordinate daily team operations
* Understand children’s mental health and emotional wellbeing needs
* Collaborate with partner agencies to meet children’s needs
* Ensure clinical care standards, promote evidence-based practice, and act as shift coordinator
* Recognize and report signs of harm, abuse, or neglect
* Support the expanded mental health line services for under-16s and 16-18s
* Provide ongoing professional development and induction support
Qualifications
* Current registration with a relevant healthcare or social work body
* Evidence of CPD
* Certificate in teaching & assessing in clinical practice
* Minimum 18 months post-qualifying experience with sign-off of preceptorship or competency framework
Experience
* Working with children and young people with mental health issues in community settings
* Providing clinical supervision and working within multidisciplinary teams
