Overview
Classroom Support are excited to be working with a school in Chatham who are looking to recruit a number of Learning Support Assistants to start over the next couple of months on temp to perm contracts.
The school supports students aged 11-16 with SEMH. The environment can be challenging in terms of behaviour; the Senior Leadership team promote staff who work hard and make a lasting positive impact on their students, with opportunities to progress. Starting on a supply basis and going permanent between 14 and 16 weeks into the contract.
The positions will start on a temporary basis with the option of going permanent after a number of weeks working with the academy through our Classroom Support agency.
Responsibilities
* Experience of supporting children/young adults with challenging behaviour.
* Ability to create bonds with students who have had challenging backgrounds and quickly build trust.
* Mentoring children and young adults within SEN schools or candidates with a mental health support/young offender background.
* Support for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
* Knowledge of working in settings such as Pupil Referral Units, SEMH schools, young offenders institutions or children's homes is advantageous.
* Any experience of restraint training is highly advantageous but not necessary; attachment training is also advantageous but not necessary.
* Understanding or experience in supporting children within the foster system or looked after children is advantageous; previous work as a Foster Carer would be beneficial.
Qualifications / Experience
* Solid knowledge and experience of supporting those with SEMH needs.
* Experience mentoring children and young adults in SEN environments or with mental health support/young offender backgrounds.
* Experience in roles involving challenging behaviour and building trust with students.
* DBS requirements: You will need a DBS on the Update Service or be willing to pay for a new DBS (£63.70) if you do not have one.
Remuneration
The rate of pay is up to £105 per day for the right candidates. Temp to perm option after 12–14 academic weeks.
