Overview

The department is responsible for the commissioning, service and maintenance of a wide range of medical devices used within all areas of clinical care including ventilation, endoscopy, neonatal and theatre-based medical equipment. Duties will include medical device commissioning, service, repair, implementation of regulatory action and safe disposal of devices at the end of life. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Medical Engineering Technician to join a small friendly team based at Furness General Hospital.


Responsibilities

* Medical device commissioning, service, repair, and implementing regulatory actions.
* Safe disposal of devices at end of life.
* Analysis and diagnosing faults in complex electronic/mechanical equipment.
* Maintain maintenance records using a database system; familiarity with Microsoft Office.
* Self-management: plan routine maintenance and prioritise breakdown maintenance; manage and prioritise day-to-day workload.
* Calibration and maintenance of medical devices; operate safe systems used in maintenance and repair of complex electronic equipment.
* Communicate effectively and build lasting relationships with staff, visitors and suppliers.
* Comfort with working in varied environments, including plant rooms and theatre environments.


Qualifications and Experience

* Professional electronics knowledge contributed by HND in electronics, medical engineering or equivalent; practical knowledge from technical training, short courses and experience.
* Degree-level qualification in Medical Device Maintenance or Electrical and Electronic Engineering; physiology training to cover a range of equipment; VRCT membership; analysis and diagnosing faults in complex electronic/mechanical equipment.
* Experience with safe operating systems used in maintenance and repair of complex electronic equipment.
* Medical device calibration and maintenance.
* Desirable: evidence of regular training courses to further skills and experience; knowledge/experience of health service issues; experience within the scope of MHRA Managing Medical Devices; experience of ISO 9001:2015 Quality system environment; experience evaluating medical devices and performing acceptance testing.
* Highly developed manual dexterity, coordination and sensory skills for precision tools and delicate equipment.
* Quality systems and database management.
* Ability to travel as required.
