The Role As an EYFS Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and the wider Early Years team to support children in Nursery and/or Reception. You will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, ensuring that learning experiences are engaging, developmentally appropriate, and responsive to the needs of individual children. You will support children across all areas of learning, including communication and language, physical development, personal, social and emotional development, literacy, and mathematics. The role requires a patient, observant, and nurturing practitioner who understands how young children learn through play, exploration, and positive interaction with adults and peers. Key Responsibilities The successful EYFS Teaching Assistant will be expected to carry out a wide range of duties, including: Supporting the class teacher in the planning and delivery of learning activities in line with the EYFS framework Working with individual children and small groups to support learning, development, and early intervention Supporting children’s communication and language development, including listening skills, vocabulary development, and early phonics Encouraging the development of personal, social, and emotional skills such as confidence, independence, cooperation, and self-regulation Supporting learning through structured activities and child-initiated play, both indoors and outdoors Assisting with the observation, assessment, and recording of children’s progress and achievements Helping to create and maintain a safe, clean, and stimulating learning environment Supporting children during daily routines, including arrival, transitions between activities, mealtimes, and toileting where required Encouraging positive behaviour and modelling appropriate social interactions and routines Supporting children with additional needs under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCo Working collaboratively with teachers, Early Years practitioners, and other members of staff The Ideal Candidate We are looking for an EYFS Teaching Assistant who is caring, reliable, and committed to supporting young children’s learning and wellbeing. You should have a genuine interest in early childhood development and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with children and adults. The successful candidate will demonstrate: Experience working with children in an EYFS setting, such as a primary school, nursery, or early years provision A good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework Strong communication and interpersonal skills A calm, patient, and nurturing approach to working with young children The ability to work effectively as part of a team Flexibility and adaptability in a busy classroom environment A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children A relevant early years or childcare qualification (such as Level 2 or Level 3) is desirable, although candidates with relevant experience and a willingness to develop professionally are encouraged to apply.
