Senior Fire Alarm Engineer (Off-Tools)
About the Role
We are a well-established fire alarm company based in South West London, seeking an experienced Senior Fire Alarm Engineer to join our team in a senior, off-tools capacity. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on engineer ready to take the next step in their career, moving into a survey and technical support role while drawing on years of practical field experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out detailed fire alarm surveys on new and existing sites across South West London and surrounding areas.
* Produce comprehensive survey reports, system designs, and specifications in accordance with BS 5839 and relevant standards.
* Liaise with clients, project managers, and contractors to discuss survey findings and proposed solutions.
* Provide day‑to‑day technical support and mentorship to field engineers, assisting with complex faults, installation queries, and commissioning challenges.
* Review and interpret existing documentation, including as‑built drawings, cause and effect matrices, and commissioning records.
* Assist in the preparation of method statements, risk assessments, and project documentation.
* Support the estimating and sales teams with technical input on proposals and tender submissions.
* Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of fire alarm legislation, codes of practice, and industry developments.
* Attend the South West London office a minimum of two days per week for meetings, planning, and administrative duties.
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, contributing to customer satisfaction and retention.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will be a highly experienced fire alarm engineer with a strong background across installation, commissioning, and maintenance, now looking to step away from the tools and apply their expertise in a survey and technical leadership role.
Essential
* Extensive experience in the fire alarm industry, covering installation, commissioning, and maintenance of addressable and conventional systems.
* Proven ability to conduct site surveys and produce professional technical reports and system specifications.
* Strong working knowledge of BS 5839 Part 1 and other relevant standards and codes of practice.
* Familiarity with a wide range of fire alarm panel manufacturers (e.g. Advanced, Hochiki, Notifier, Gent, Morley, etc.).
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical matters clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
* Self‑motivated and able to manage a varied workload with minimal supervision.
* UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
Desirable
* FIA Level 3 Certificate in Fire Detection and Alarm Systems (or equivalent qualification).
* FIA Level 5 Diploma in Fire Detection and Alarm Systems (or equivalent qualification).
* Experience in a survey, design, or technical support role within the fire protection industry.
* Knowledge of fire suppression, emergency lighting, or related life safety systems.
* Experience using AutoCAD or other design/drawing software.
