About The Team: SRUC (Scotland's Rural College) is a specialist higher education institution delivering tertiary education, research and consultancy. SRUC's principal purpose is to advance education, science, research, and environmental protection and improvement in rural and land-based industries, both domestically and internationally. The Opportunity: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a student support tutor to join the friendly student support team at SRUC Aberdeen. The successful post-holder will provide high quality proactive, and when required, reactive student support services – to taught / research students and prospective students, as applicable. They will provide and have experience in pastoral support in the HE/FE sector. Main Responsibilities :- To work proactively with students (both groups and individuals) to help maintain and improve physical and mental well-being. To be the recognised point of contact for any student that has or believes they are suffering any form of ill-health. To be responsive to students in distress and be willing to intervene to help maintain and improve student well-being. To exercise high level of discretion and appropriate confidentiality when dealing with often complex personal circumstances. To co-ordinate the identification and implementation of reasonable adjustments (non-learning) under the Equality Act, for students with ill-health. To administer, coordinate and manage (as applicable) the faculty's safeguarding activities, in conjunction with the Academic Liaison Manager (in their role as Campus Safeguarding Lead), including undertaking and monitoring adherence to risk assessments. To liaise with external agencies e.g. to source advice to ensure any appropriate support is made available where possible within SRUC to students with ill-health, and to refer students on to external sources of support. To line manage, supervise and/or coordinate the activities of any part time specialist staff/contractors e.g. in areas such as student mental health or counselling. To maintain up to date knowledge of physical and mental well-being issues and approaches to supporting student well-being. To work in partnership with the Student Association in respect of student well-being. To develop and maintain effective relationships with students, staff and external agencies and partners to promote student well-being. To organise relevant staff development. To act as a campus equality and inclusion champion, working with staff to integrate equality and inclusion into the curriculum and services offered on campus. To work in close partnership with Student Support Tutor (Education) colleague(s) on campus regarding casework e.g. if a student's ill-health is causing or contributing to an education support need. To work with Student Support Tutor (Education) colleague(s) on campus in providing education support as required (e.g. to act as scribe/reader/note-taker/proof-reader). To work with Student Support Tutor (Pastoral) colleagues across SRUC, and other appropriate managers and staff within and outwith the faculty, in developing and implementing centralised systems, policies, processes, activities etc in support of student well-being – leading on projects where applicable. To act as a point of contact on student funding matters e.g. if funding matters are causing/contributing to student ill-health, and to signpost students to staff responsible for student funding matters. To ensure accurate and confidential record keeping and completion of all relevant documentation. To adhere to all relevant policies and procedures. To represent the Academic Liaison Manager as and when required. For full person specification, please read the Job Particulars document. Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate will be educated to SCQF Level 9 in a relevant subject and/or have a relevant professional qualification(s) and/or significant relevant experience.
