PPIE and Qualitative Research Lead - DHVL
University of Glasgow invites applications for the PPIE and Qualitative Research Lead position within the Digital Health Validation Lab (DHVL). The role is part‑time (17.5 hours per week) and will run until 30 September 2028, with a salary at Grade 7 (£41,064‑£46,049 per annum, pro‑rata).
Job Purpose
Lead and deliver high‑quality Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) and qualitative research activities throughout the DHVL’s research lifecycle. Ensure the public is meaningfully involved from project conception to dissemination, support the development of research strategies, and align activities with governance requirements.
Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate PPIE activity across the research lifecycle, ensuring effective integration of patient and public perspectives.
* Support researchers and innovators to embed PPIE strategies in grant applications and proposals.
* Deliver and facilitate high‑quality PPIE and qualitative research activities, including interview design, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
* Plan, organise, and facilitate advisory group meetings, workshops, focus groups, and other engagement activities.
* Recruit, support, and maintain relationships with patient and public contributors, ensuring their contributions are valued and acted upon.
* Advise on clear, accessible communication materials and support reimbursement of public contributors.
* Capture, evaluate, and report on the impact of PPIE activity and produce reports, case studies, and presentations.
* Champion equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in all PPIE activities, actively seeking under‑represented voices.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to embed inclusive approaches across the lab’s portfolio.
* Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by the line manager.
Qualifications
* A1 A-level equivalent or higher (Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level 9); professional accreditation and relevant training acceptable.
* A2 Knowledge of PPIE concepts, standards, and UK initiatives.
* A3 Knowledge of the regulatory framework governing research involving humans.
* A4 Understanding of UK, EU and International data protection legislation.
* B1 Knowledge of research legislation (e.g., Medicines for Human Use Regulations, ICH GCP, Mental Capacity Act).
* B2 Knowledge of healthcare innovation product development cycles.
* B3 Familiarity with qualitative data collection and study design.
* B4 Awareness of common qualitative analysis methods (thematic, content, framework analysis).
* C1‑C10 Essential skills: organisational, autonomous work, collaboration, communication, initiative, creativity, interpersonal, influencing, multitasking, and writing skills.
* D1‑D2 Desirable skills: training delivery, stakeholder reporting.
* E1‑E6 Essential experience: delivering inclusive PPIE activities, presentations, strategy implementation, involvement leadership, stakeholder engagement, and high‑calibre service provision.
* F1‑F6 Desirable experience: higher‑education environment, clinical research, community representation, facilitation, qualitative data analysis, and software (NVivo, ATLAS.ti).

* This is a part‑time, open‑ended role with funding available until 30 September 2028.
